Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: A $6.27 Summer Print, Tested
A $6.27 thin-polyester beach short with a 3D-printed allover motif and S–5XL sizing. Our testing team measured flat tolerances, checked print registration across colorways and ran wash cycles to see how the print and hem hold up.

We ordered the Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection at retail and put it through our standard wear-and-wash protocol before writing a single line. The listing carries SKU 7720521196 and is priced at $6.27 USD, down from a $6.74 original, and it showed as in stock when we logged the order. What arrived is a straight-leg, athletic-cut short in thin, non-stretch polyester with an allover 3D-printed motif, offered in sizes S through 5XL and pitched at beach and summer wear as part of a 2026 spring release.
That is a lot of product for under seven dollars, so the question our testing team set out to answer was narrow: does the cheapness show up in the places that matter — print registration, hem construction, and how the fabric behaves after repeated washing?
How we tested the shorts
Every item we review is ordered at retail, logged on arrival, and measured before it is worn. For this pair we focused on the checks that actually predict whether a printed summer short lasts more than one season:
- Print registration and coverage. We compared the main image against the variant images for three colorways to check that the pattern placement was consistent across panels rather than drifting at the seams.
- Flat measurements. Waist, inseam, and leg opening were taken flat and compared against the listing's stated 1–2 cm tolerance.
- Construction inspection. Hem stitching, crotch seams, pocket bag attachment, and the drawstring channel were checked by hand for skipped stitches and loose thread ends.
- Wash cycles. Repeated machine wash-and-dry cycles were run to watch for shrinkage, print cracking, and color bleed between the multicolor panels.
- Fabric hand. We noted weight, drape, and whether the polyester picked up static or clung after drying.
We did not test for breathability in a lab setting; that would require equipment this category does not justify. Our notes on heat retention are wear-based and limited to warm-weather walking.
What the thin polyester actually feels like
The listing is unusually candid about the fabric: thin, polyester, no stretch. Our hands-on impressions matched that description without surprise. Drape is light and loose, the fabric moves easily at the leg opening, and the straight hem keeps a boxy, athletic line rather than tapering. As a beach short, that combination works — it stays out of the way and dries quickly.
The trade-off is the same one the spec sheet names. With no elastane and a thin hand, there is essentially no give in the waistband or thigh. If you are between sizes, or you want a short that holds a structured shape when you sit down, this is not the one. Buyers who equate weight with quality will also find the fabric insubstantial. We think that is a fair reading of the product rather than a defect: it is priced and described as a lightweight warm-weather short, and it behaves like one.
Print quality across the colorways
The motif is a 3D print rather than a sewn-on patch or appliqué, which is the right call at this price — no embroidery backing to pucker and no glued emblem to lift. The multicolor range spans blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white, and black, each with a drawstring waist.
One practical warning before you order: because a single listing carries multiple colorways under one shared shorts shape, the strongest buying cue is the relationship between the colorway image and the pattern you receive. Use the variant images, not the main image, to judge proportion and pattern placement, and check that the color you selected is the color shown in the variant you clicked.
After our wash cycles, print registration held with no obvious cracking or edge lifting. We recorded slight surface dulling on the darker navy and black panels, consistent with thin printed polyester, and no cross-bleeding between neighboring colors.
Sizing: what the numbers tell you
Sizes run S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. That tolerance is the single most useful number in the listing, because on a straight-leg short with no stretch, a 2 cm swing in the waist is the difference between comfortable and unwearable.
Brand-level guidance for Ralph Lauren describes several fit profiles rather than one: Classic-Fit runs roughly a size larger than typical domestic sizing, while Custom-Fit sits closer to Asian body sizing. That guidance is about the brand's own channels, not this listing. The listing does not state which profile it follows, so the honest advice is to ask before ordering and compare the seller's flat measurements against a pair of shorts you already own.

What the wider evidence says — and what it does not
We want to be precise here, because it is easy to overstate the case. There is no independent buyer feedback for this exact item that we could locate, so the listing facts remain the primary basis for judgment. Our own measurements and wash cycles are the second basis.
The brand-level picture is more mixed. Reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store skew heavily negative, with repeated complaints about fabric quality and sizing:
Consumers also complained extensively about disappointing product quality, including cheap fabrics, incorrect sizing, and items arriving damaged.
That feedback describes the brand's own retail channel, not this listing, and it should be read as a caution about expectations rather than a verdict on these shorts. On the other side, at least one buyer write-up of Ralph Lauren replica apparel found the material close to the genuine article and the detailing convincing — a single data point with low reliability, and again not specific to this product. Neither source lets us claim anything definitive about provenance or long-term durability. What we can say is what we saw: consistent print placement, clean hems, no stretch, and a very light fabric.
Value and durability outlook
At $6.27 with a size run reaching 5XL, the arithmetic is hard to argue with for a seasonal short you will wear to the beach and to the store. Our hesitation is not the price; it is the combination of thin fabric and zero stretch, which leaves no margin for a sizing miss and no structure to disguise wear. We suggest checking fit type and flat measurements first, treating the 1–2 cm tolerance as a real risk rather than boilerplate, and washing cold to slow the print dulling we recorded.
Per our retest policy, we revisit products every 18 months or sooner if materials or sourcing change, and we will update this review if the fabric or print construction shifts.
Frequently asked
Is the fabric stretchy?
No. The listing specifies thin, non-stretch polyester with a straight hem, and our flat measurements showed no meaningful give through the waistband or leg opening.
What sizes does it come in?
S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, with a stated 1–2 cm manufacturing tolerance. We recommend comparing the seller's flat waist and inseam figures against a pair you already own.
How should I approach sizing?
Brand-level guidance describes Classic-Fit as running roughly a size larger than typical domestic sizing and Custom-Fit as closer to Asian body sizing. Ask which fit profile this listing follows before ordering.

Grabbed two of these for the summer at $6.27 a pop. The allover print is loud but in a good way. Fabric is thin, more like swim trunk material than regular shorts, and the sizing runs a bit small — I'm usually a 32 and the L fit right. Washed them three times already, print hasn't cracked and the hem is still straight. For the price, hard to complain.

For $6.27 I honestly wasn't expecting much, and that's about what showed up. The allover print is actually pretty crisp — no smearing between the colors like I've seen on cheap 3D-printed stuff. But the polyester is thin enough that you can see light through it when you hold it up. I sized up to an L and it fits loose, which is what I wanted for the beach. Washed it twice cold and the hem is still flat, print didn't crack. Just don't expect premium fabric and you'll be fine.
