Review methodology
Our review methodology follows a standardized protocol. For each product, we order at least two units from different retailers to check consistency. We record packaging condition, unboxing time, and first impressions. In the test kitchen, we run product-specific tests: for knives, we perform 100 cuts on a standard board and measure edge retention with a CATRA tester; for ceramics, we test thermal shock by moving from freezer to boiling water and check chip resistance with a drop test; for appliances, we measure cooking time, temperature variance, and energy consumption. We compare results against category benchmarks. Each product is scored on a five-point scale: 5 excellent, 4 good, 3 adequate, 2 poor, 1 very poor. Hands-on scores use the full 1 to 5 scale. Reviews are reassessed when a product or the relevant evidence changes; any new test is dated. Our research editor verifies sourcing and materials claims.
Records and comparison limits
Thermal-shock and drop-test notes identify sample count, temperature conditions and drop setup. These controlled results do not predict every kitchen accident. Appliance comparisons identify the cooking load, heat source and model-specific voltage.
